Singapore International Youth Dance Competition

The International Youth Dance Competition (IYDC) is organized by the International Youth Dance Company Limited. This event aims to encourage aspiring young dancers from all over the world to hone their skills and showcase their talents through a series of workshop sessions and dance competitions.

In order to develop young dancers through this unique dance competition, participants will have the opportunity to learn from renowned dance educators and engage in friendly cultural exchanges with dancers from all over the world.

A panel of judges comprising of dancers with diverse dance backgrounds and experience awards Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes based on the performance of the participants. The best performer in each dance category will be awarded the Best Dancer Trophy and receive a scholarship to a prestigious school in the Asia-Pacific region.

The competition consists of ballet, jazz, modern and other categories, totaling four categories. Each category is divided into three levels, Level 1 (6-9 years old), Level 2 (10-12 years old) and Level 3 (13 years old and above). Each level includes the following programs: Solo, Solo Beginner, Pair/Trio, Small Group and Large Group.

The number of participants is limited as follows:

Single: Limit 1 participant per program.

Double/Triple: Limit 2 to 3 participants per program. Groups: Each program is limited to 4 to 12 participants.

Large groups: Each program is limited to 13 to 24 participants.

For the Novice Solo program, participants must be dancers with no more than one year of stage experience (Mixed Type – participants may compete under any type in this category and may not have more than one year of stage experience). Also, participants in Novice Solo may compete in the Regular Solo program.

Through a panel of judges, participants will be awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance. Achievement levels are listed below:

Gold: 85 to 100 points
Silver: 70 to 84 points
Bronze: 55 to 69 points

Trophy awards include:

[Best Scorer] Trophy:

will be awarded to the highest scoring soloist in each class.

[Overall Champion] Trophy:

Awards will be presented to the overall winners of each class, including solo, duo/trio, group and large group events.

The Overall Solo Dance Champion in each level will receive a prize of HK$500 or equivalent.

[Grand Champion Trophy]:

The best overall winner in each class will receive the Grand Champion Trophy Award. This award includes solo, duo/trio, group and large group events.

The soloist who wins the Grand Champion Award from Levels 2 through 4 will receive a scholarship to a prestigious dance academy, as well as a cash prize valued at $180.

The jury scored the contestants on their dance technique and artistic sense.

  1. Dance technique will be graded on posture and line, control and coordination of movement, and use of stage and space.
  2. Artistry will be scored on the musicality associated with the choreography and the expression of emotion through the steps.

Age-appropriate range:
6 years and above
